Does Your Motor Oil Do This?

Permit Easy Starting?
Motor oil must provide easy cold weather start-up. Petroleum oils are refined oils that contain wax, thickening in cold temperatures and causing the oil to lose fluidity and create drag on the engine upon start-up. Enough drag inhibits the engine from reaching the critical cranking speed required for the engine to start.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils contain no waxes, naturally maintaining their fluidity in extremely low temperatures. AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils flow quickly and reliably to allow easy starting and immediate lubricating protection.

Lubricate and Prevent Wear?
Motor oil must prevent the metal-to-metal contact within an engine that causes wear, scoring or seizure of engine parts. Oil films on critical engine parts must be constantly replenished through adequate lubricant flow and distribution.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils cling tenaciously to engine parts, providing superior protection against wear even when faced with high temperatures and intense shearing forces that cause conventional oils to vaporize, shear back and lose their lubricating effectiveness.

Protect Against Rust?
Motor oil must neutralize the effects of water and other combustion by-products that form rust. Rust-inhibition is an especially important feature for stored engines and engines subject to frequent short trip operations.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils are formulated with special rust-inhibiting additives, preventing the rusting of engine parts.

Reduce Friction?
Motor oil must maintain an oil film that keeps the surfaces of moving engine parts separated, minimizing friction that produces excess heat and inhibits fuel efficiency.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils are formulated to keep friction to an absolute minimum, providing outstanding film strength that prevents metal-to-metal contact and minimizing internal fluid friction to provide maximum fuel efficiency.

Keep Engine Parts Clean?
Motor oil must keep engines clean with adequate detergent/dispersant additives that prevent the build-up of sludge and varnish deposits which lead to oil flow restriction, increased wear, loss of power and increased oil consumption.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils are formulated with top-quality detergent/dispersant additives designed for long-term performance, effectively keeping engines clean and deposit-free while maintaining the superior protection properties of the oil.

Prevent Corrosion?
Motor oil must protect engines from the damaging effects of corrosion formed through the combination of water, unburned fuel, combustion by-products, acids and gases.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils are formulated with corrosion inhibitors and high total base numbers (TBN), providing outstanding protection against the damaging effects of corrosion.

Cool Engine Parts?
Motor oil must cool several critical engine components, including the crankshaft, rod bearings, camshaft and its bearings, timing gears, pistons and turbocharger. These parts rely on supplies of cool oil in order to pick up and carry heat to the crankcase, where it is transferred to the surrounding air. If parts are allowed to overheat, engine failure soon follows.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils are formulated with superior synthetic base stocks, exhibiting exceptional heat transfer properties and lubricity the effectively cool critical engine parts and reduce engine operating temperatures.

Minimize Combustion Chamber Deposits?
Motor oil must burn cleanly and hold combustion chamber deposits to an absolute minimum. Excessive deposits cause spark plugs to short out and combustion problems such as pinging and knock. Deposits also act as heat barriers, causing damage to engine components.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils run naturally cleaner than conventional oils. Formulated with superior detergent/dispersant additive packages, AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils provide outstanding deposit control for extended drain intervals.

Seal Combustion Pressures?
Motor oil must "fill in" the microscopic hills and valleys present on the surfaces of piston rings, ring grooves and cylinder walls, sealing the combustion chamber and preventing high combustion and compression pressures from escaping into the crankcase and reducing engine power and efficiency.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils maintain highly protective lubricant films on rings and cylinder walls, keeping engine power and efficiency at their peak, while also effectively protecting against wear.

Prevent Foam?
Motor oil must contain effective antifoam additives in order to preserve the lubricant's protective qualities. Moving engine parts cause air in the crankcase to be constantly whipped into the oil, causing foam that compromises proper heat conduction and wear protection.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils contain high quality antifoam additives and resist foaming in service, allowing the superior wear protection and heat transfer properties of AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils to be maintained for extended drain intervals.

Enhance Fuel Economy?
Motor oil must reduce friction within the engine, which in turn reduces energy loss to "drag" and allows more energy to reach the drivetrain. The more friction is reduced, the more fuel is saved. The use of lower viscosity lubricants reduces friction and improves fuel economy,

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils are formulated to provide maximum fuel efficiency. The smooth, uniform molecules produce minimal internal friction, allowing maximum energy to each the drivetrain. Independent tests show fuel savings of five to eight percent when using AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils Do More Than Other Motor Oils Do.

  • Permit easy starting
  • Lubricate and prevent wear
  • Protect against rust
  • Reduce friction
  • Keep engine parts clean
  • Prevent corrosion
  • Cool engine parts
  • Minimize combustion chamber deposits
  • Seal combustion pressures
  • Prevent foam
  • Enhance fuel economy

Why Motor Oil Deteriorates

It is common knowledge that, at some point, engine oil must be changed. It's something that is preached relentlessly to vehicle owners by vehicle manufacturers, quick lubes and oil companies. But consumers are widely unaware of what exactly makes oil changes necessary.

Many factors contribute to a motor oil's demise, but it is essentially the accumulation of contaminants in the oil and chemical changes in the oil itself that make a motor unfit for further service. With time, it is inevitable that the oil will be contaminated by dirt or sludge, or succumb to the extreme pressures or temperatures found inside an engine. AMSOIL Motor Oils are formulated with the industry's most advanced synthetic base stocks and additive packages to combat the forces that deteriorate conventional oils. (read more)

What is the NOACK Volatility Test?
Volatization is a term used to describe what happens to a fluid as it is heated to the point it begins to "boil off." Upon reaching a certain temperature, oil will begin to lose some of its lighter weight molecules as they "boil off" and leave heavier weight molecules behind. Not only does this cause higher oil consumption, this process can also cause increased viscosity making the oil more difficult to circulate through the lubrication system. (read more)

FULL WARRANTY

AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are formulated to surpass engine test specifications, offering protection far greater than competing motor oils for extended drain intervals. Most synthetic oil manufacturers make no claim to extended drain intervals, deferring to the maintenance schedule provided by the vehicle manufacturer. With its unparalleled oil and warranty program, AMSOIL offers consumers unprecedented protection and economics.

Another AMSOIL First

More than 20 years ago, AMSOIL began using the NOACK volatility test as a comparison tool and measurement of quality. Back then, nearly every oil tested side-by-side with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils failed, and those that passed barely squeaked by. Other oil companies paid no attention to NOACK results until Ford Motor Company made it a requirement for service fill oils, validating what AMSOIL had said all along.

THE NOACK Volatility Test
The NOACK Volatility Test determines the evaporation loss of lubricants in high temperature service. The more motor oils vaporize, the thicker and heavier they become, contributing to poor circulation, reduced fuel economy and increased oil consumption, wear and emissions. AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil resists high temperature volatization better than other motor oils. AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil maintains peak fuel efficiency and reduces oil consumption and emissions.
